adidas and Pharrell Williams Face Accusations of Cultural Appropriation for Their Hu Holi Collection
Hindu activists are asking them to change the name.
Pharrell Williams and adidas Originals are facing criticism for their recently released Hu Holi collection, with members of the Hindu community urging the brand to change the name. The collaboration featured shoes and apparel in bright colors inspired by the Holi celebrations in India and Nepal.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed released a statement asking adidas and Williams to issue an apology and remove the “Holi” name from the items. Zed and other Hindu activities have criticized the collection for trivializing Hindu customs and celebrations, with many also criticizing a recent promo video showing Williams attending a Holi celebration in India.
