Marvel Will Launch a New Franchise of Diverse Superheroes in 2018

Get ready for even more superheroes next year: Marvel has announced it will launch a franchise dedicated to a new generation of diverse superheroes in 2018. The series will include a full-lenghth animated feature film called Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, set to launch in 2018. And as part of the new franchise, Marvel will spotlight its first Muslim and LGBT superheroes.

As BuzzFeed reported on the new Marvel franchise, the series will begin with six digital shorts running four minutes each. Some of the characters to feature in the new franchise include Ms. Marvel, a.k.a. Kamala Khan, voiced by Kathreen Khavari, who will be the star of her own series. Miss America, a.k.a. America Chavez, will be Marvel’s first Latino-American LGBT character and is voiced by Cierra Ramirez. Also forming part of the franchise Squirrel Girl, voiced by Milana Vayntrub. Sounds like Batman and Superman will face some competition.
